I found this blog with some great articles on media and its use in churches. For example, here’s the intro from a recent article I enjoyed.
Ten Dangers of Advertising ->
Advertising can be one of the most powerful media tools at a church’s disposal. There are plenty of reasons why your church should be using advertising. However, there are also some dangers about advertising. If done the wrong way, Advertising can actually harm your identity. Treat advertising like you would treat visitor. Follow these simple instructions to avoid doing anything that would give people a wrong impression of your ministry. …

To the delegates of the 2011 Labor National Conference:
Marriage is the union of one man and one woman, voluntarily entered into for life.
It is an institution vital to the well-being of all of society. In particular it confirms the importance of motherhood and fatherhood and seeks to protect children’s biological identity.
It has a meaning that we hold deeply for its cultural, religious and social significance.
We urge you not to redefine marriage in your party platform to admit relationships to which it does not naturally or historically apply.
Interesting documentary about youth ministry in the US. I don’t know all the people interviewed or their doctrinal position – Have a watch and form your own conclusion.
Bible Cross References, ‘Bible Social Network’, and Distribution of people and places
Chris Harrison, of Carnegie Mellon University, and Christopher Romhild,
of Nordelbische Evangelisch-Lutherische Kirche in Germany, have created a
graphic that shows 63,779 cross-references between different portions
of the Bible. The colored lines are the cross-references. The white bars
at the bottom represent the number of verses in each individual chapter
of the Bible; the long white bar at bottom center would be Psalm 119,
which has 176 verses.
The original web page for this work is at http://www.chrisharrison.net/index.php/Visualizations/BibleViz, and you can see a zoomable version of the graphic at http://gigapan.org/gigapans/5872/.
Also on his project page is a really interesting ‘Bible Social Network’ map, and another interesting graphic about the distribution of Biblical people and places which shows the entire Bible printed on a sheet of paper . You can also download high-res versions from his site – some are over 100Mb in size!
If you like e-sword for Windows then check out PocketSword for iPhone/iPad. It contains many Bible versions, devotionals, commentaries, dictionaries and lots more.
PocketSword is a Bible Study app for the iPad, iPhone & iPod touch (iOS 3.0 and above) that is built upon the powerful SWORD backend developed by the CrossWire Bible Society.
Modules are available for download (offline use) within the app, with permission granted by the various copyright holders to CrossWire to distribute them for use in its apps. When you download this app, it comes with the KJV & Matthew Henry’s Concise Commentary on the Whole Bible pre-installed, but you can use the downloader within PocketSword (located under the More tab) to choose which additional modules you wish to download from CrossWire and have available for offline use.

This time lapse reminds me of the 23rd Psalm
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.
Ray Comfort from Living Waters has created another video called 180 Movie. It’s a 30 minute documentary that’s well worth watching, and would make an excellent outreach video. Note: Parental discretion advised.
I bought a copy of Glo Bible a few years back from Koorong as it has a heap of maps and a Bible time line and some quite good virtual tours through of historical Bible sites. They’ve now released a lite version for iPhone/iPad and windows/mac which has all the same maps/photos and virtual tours which load from their website. Well worth a look now it’s free.
The free Grace to You Application for the iPhone and iPod Touchcontains forty years of John MacArthur’s Bible teaching in your pocket. That’s thousands of hours of in-depth Bible teaching instantly available at the touch of your fingertip.
Listen to sermons on Bible passages or topics that interest you, stay tuned to our radio and television broadcasts, and keep up with your choice of four daily devotionals. After you’ve downloaded and internalized the content, you’ll want to share it with your friends via Twitter, Facebook, or email.

Please note that we do not hold to the doctrine of Calvinism.
Creation Ministries attempt at an app is very nice and it’s free too. You can access the latest news and information from Creation Ministries. Watch short videos on a variety of topics, then share them with your friends via Twitter, Facebook, or email. Well worth getting for the price.
Our Daily Bread is available on the iPhone/iPad for 99c. It doesn’t really contain anything earthshattering in terms of content and basically just reads their web site at this stage and links to Biblegateway.com. The iPhone version makes it easy to read but the iPad version is a bit pointless as their website renders fine in the browser. Hopefully later updates contain more content. Still the 99c goes towards supporting their ministry.
Without trying to start a debate about whether Apple is good or bad, I just wanted to post a couple of useful mobile (iPhone / iPad) apps that I use. Some of them are available on that other operating system Android.
- Bible. Is is a free app that lets you read or listen to the Bible on the go. It has various versions and includes a both a standard and ‘dramatic’ KJV audio version. Just be aware that it streams the audio off the website so you don’t get surprised by a large 3G data bill. Wireless works as well of course.
- They also have Android and a web site version as well.
17 Oct :: Edit – the latest version has the option to download all the audio to the local device so you can listen offline now.
Here is a full length movie about Charles Spurgeon published by Christian Television Association on youtube.
If you want to download a copy to keep or watch offline use this free downloader. Just uncheck the option to install the toolbar and it’s quite a good free program. Just paste the link into the program and select the high quality download as per the screen capture here –>
VLC is the best free media player that works with all downloaded video formats.
John Lennox is Professor of Mathematics at the University of Oxford, Fellow in Mathematics, Philosophy of Science and Pastoral Advisor at Green Templeton College of Oxford University. He is also an outspoken and world-renowned Christian academic.Fixed Point Foundation web site hosts a number of debates, one being an interesting one between John Lennox and Richard Dawkins regarding his book ‘The God Delusion’.
You can also find many other resources if you search youtube or google for John Lennox if you are interested in apologetics and defending the faith.
Don’t forget this is NBF week with the theme ‘Revive Bible Christianity’, running Tuesday to Thursday. For those that can’t make it to Sydney, try out the live video stream on their website www.faithbaptist.org.au/nbf or download sermons after the event.
To get a copy of audio or video from previous years you could goto the NBF page and contact the hosting churches directly as most will have them freely downloadable sermons or post you DVD videos of the event.
I stumbled across this video about the parable of the sower on youtube and found a huge resource library on www.max7.org which might be good for Sunday School or kids club or other kids holiday programs.
Here’s the video on youtube….
The Berean Call is the ministry of Dave Hunt and T.A. McMahon.
Alert believers in Christ to unbiblical teachings and practices impacting the church.
Exhort believers to give greater heed to Biblical discernment and truth regarding teachings and practices being currently promoted in the church.
Supply believers with teaching, information, and materials which will encourage the love of God’s truth, and assist in the development of Biblical discernment.
Mobilize believers in Christ to action in obedience to the Scriptural command to “earnestly contend for the faith” (Jude 3).
Impact the church of Jesus Christ with the necessity of trusting the Scriptures as the only rule of faith, practice, and a life pleasing to God.
Three very impressive time lapse videos that display the beauty of creation.
Very interesting video sent to me. Isn’t it amazing how everything just ‘evolved’ to it’s current level of complexity. Of course we know better…
HeLives.com has some good resources, an updated blog of new resources (probably updated more often than here) and these 5 quite nice interactive resources.
Quick Church History
The Book of Jonah in 4 Mins
Biblemap.org is a Bible Atlas connected to Google Maps which allows you to pick a reference and it will update the map automatically. Quite clever and work a look…
